The Supreme Court rejected the complaint of Giyas Ibrahimov
Today, the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan has considered the appeal of youth activist Giyas Ibrahimov. The complaint was filed against the decision of the preliminary session of the Baku Court of Appeal (BAS), which refused to hold a repeated judicial investigation.
According to lawyer Elchin Sadigov, in the court of first instance the proceedings were conducted in violation of the law and the necessary investigation was not provided. The defense had more than 20 motions, but none of them was satisfied. However, the judge Iran Hajiaybov dismissed the appeal.
Giyas Ibrahimov and Bayram Mammadov were arrested on May 10, 2016 on charges of large scale illicit drug trafficking. However, the real reason for the arrest was the writing political slogans on the monument to Heydar Aliyev in the center of Baku. Both young men were sentenced to 10 years in prison. "Amnesty International" recognized them as "prisoners and consciences" .- 06D--
