Trial in the case of son of the human rights activist Oktay Gyulalyev

On Tuesday  the  Khatai District Court  chaired by  Bakhtiyar Mammadov started the investigation into the 17-year-old Ali Gyulalyev, a  son of a human rights activist Oktay Gyulalyev.

He is charged with disorderly conduct. He is accused of involvement in the fight September 20, 2013 in the school N165, where he studied. A victim in the case is a student of the same school Bayram Sultanli.

At the beginning of the  trial, O.Gyulalyev,  who represented his son,  put forward two motions. The first on the termination  the criminal proceedings because his  did not commit a crime.

Second motion  concerned watch video from surveillance cameras  at school where the incident  happened. On the record  it can be seen that  A. Gyulalyev was not among the group of students. The judge dismissed the first motion, and about the second said that  it can be examined in the subsequent phase of the court. Next, the prosecutor read the indictment.

In turn, Ali Gyulalyev rejected the charges against him, saying that he does not know Bajram Sultanli,  first time saw him only in the Police Department of Baku. He also said that after being wounded with a knife (last fall), the police  forced him to testify just against Sultanli.

Now, 11 months later he himself was prosecuted on the incident in which he did not participate. Ali Gyulalyev said that "the case was politically motivated and linked to the activities of his father."

During the meeting it became clear that Bayram Sultanli, born in 1996, is engaged in martial species, which casts doubt on the version that  Ali could beat Sultanli, who is  one  year older than himself, physically stronger, and even an athlete.

B.Sultanly also acknowledged that  he had written a complaint in the office of the School Principal,  at the insistence of the Principal.

He could not explain the cause of the "pressure" on him by Ali Gyulalyev, saying only: "He greeted me and said "behave well" and began to beat."  The judge scheduled the next hearing for October 3.

The trial was attended by members of the group to support   A.Gyulalyev, including the leader of the "Classic" Popular Front Mirmahmud Miralioglu, a member of the National Council, Gultekin Hajibeyli, other members of the National Council, representatives of civil society and the media.—06С-
