Two years 3 months in a penal jail for hitting a human rights defender
Baku/25.01.21/Turan: On January 25, the Nasimi District Court of Baku sentenced Kenan Abdullayev, accused of committing an accident, because of which serious damage to the health of human rights activist Ogtay Gyulalyev, was sentenced to 2 years 3 months in a penal prison.
The court found him guilty under the Article 263.1.-1 of the Criminal Code (violation of the rules of the road and the operation of vehicles, which, by negligence, entailed serious harm to the health of the injured person) In addition, Abdullayev was deprived of his driving license for three years. Note that the maximum sentence under this article is 3 years in prison.
Firuza Gyulalyeva, the spouse of the human rights activist, said, the reason for the activist's still being in a coma is untimely medical care and its poor quality.
Last week, following persistent requests from the Gyulalyev family, the General Prosecutor's Office ordered a new investigation into the actions of the doctors.
As a result of an accident on October 29, 2019, Gyulalyev received a head injury and fell into a coma a few hours later. He was operated on only the next day, and according to experts, during this time the cerebral hemorrhage increased. Later, on behalf of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Gyulalyev was transported to Turkey, where he underwent several operations. Despite the positive momentum, he still is unconscious. –0-
