Baku/25.05.22/Turan: Muslim Unity Movement members Mail Kerimov and Suleyman Alakbarov were invited to Baku police headquarters on May 24 after their allegations of torture in police.  They were received by the deputy head of the department Vugar Alakbarov and their testimonies were taken.

The activists were assured that after their detention in front of the serious crimes court on May 20, they were taken not to the department on combating organized crime of the Interior Ministry, but to the Nasimi district police.

In confirmation, they were taken to the Nasimi police, shown the entrance, staircases and rooms.

However, the activists were reminded that they had bags put over their heads and they did not see any stairs or rooms, but they believed from the distance that it was the department mentioned above that took them there. But even if they were brought to the Nasimi police, what difference does it make where they were tortured? They stressed that they want to punish those who physically abused them.

Earlier, Ehsan Zakhidov, head of the Interior Ministry's press service, denied statements by Kerimov and Alekperov about tortures in the said department. According to him, these individuals "made noise" in front of the Baku court for serious crimes disobeying the police officers who called them to order. They were taken to the police station and released after a preventive conversation.

Recall that on May 20 the police dispersed the believers, who gathered near the Baku court for serious crimes in an effort to hear a verdict for the member of "Muslim Unity" Movement Razi Humbatov who was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment. Five people were detained, including three arrested for 30 days.  Kerimov and Alekperov were released on the evening of May 20 and claimed they had been tortured by serious crimes court officers. -06В-
