Who Can Afford to Study in Azerbaijan?

In connection with the beginning of the school year, Turan conducted a study on the cost of education at universities.

Tuition fees range between 900 to 4,700 manat per year. For most people entering universities, this is a large amount of money, because many students are from low-income families.

Off families tend to educate their children abroad, as was done for the two daughters of the head of state. However, this year, his son, Heydar Aliyev entered the Diplomatic Academy, gaining 590 points. He will be studying for a fee of 3,250 manat per year.

The salary of the head of state is 180,000 manats, which is 1.8% of his salary.

According to recent statistics, the country's 133,600 households (589,900 people) receive targeted social assistance. This is 23.5 manat per person per month.

The number of pensioners amount to 1,270,500 people, accounting for 13.8% of the population. The average pension is 151.7 manat or 38.3% of the average wage of 360 manat.

District Heads of executive authorities receive 600-800 manats. Baku’s Mayor receives 1,250 manat, and the heads of Ganja and Sumgayit get 850 manats.

It turns out, the average annual pay for a college education is 130% of the average annual salary, 240% of the average pension and the 500 – 800% for low-income families salary at 282 manat.

There are families who are forced to teach two children.

How can a chief executive with a salary of 600 - 800 manat educate two children at the same time, if he does not have extra income?  How about teachers, doctors, culture workers and other state employees?

Azerbaijan has joined the European Social Charter. According to the country's obligations, the price paid for the study must meet the legitimate income of the population.

However, the authorities ignore not only the obligation of democracy and human rights, but also many other obligations. -03B04-
