Working Group Discussed Issue of Political and Sick Prisoners
On Wednesday, there was a meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) on human rights, which included representatives from various government agencies and NGOs. The Joint Working Group met in full, and the meeting was also attended by a representative of the Interior Ministry. As Turan was told by the member of the JWG, the head of the Bureau of Human Rights and Rule of Law Saida Gojamanli, the meeting discussed issues of sick and political prisoners.
Particular attention was paid to the cases of former Health Minister Ali Insanov, head of the movement REAL Ilgar Mamedov and human rights activist Intigam Aliyev and the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in respect of them. (In respect of Intigam Aliyev, who is under investigation, the Strasbourg Court has requested the authorities of Azerbaijan in the framework of the "provisional measures" in accordance with Rule 29 of the Rules of the ECHR – Noted by Turan).
Gojamanli noted the inclusion of Insanov and Mamedov in the presidential decree of pardon expected in late December.
In addition, in connection with the cases of Intigam Aliyev, the human rights activist Rasul Jafarov and other defendant activists, it is supposed to appeal to the Prosecutor General with a request to change the preventive measure against them and to release them from custody.
During the meeting, a decision was made for admission of the head of the Society for Humanities Research Avaz Hasanov to the JWG. Further expansion of the JWG is also possible, said Gojamanli. -05C06--
