Zamin Salaev is on hunger strike for the 37 days
Baku/15.03.23/Turan: Zamin Salayev, an activist of the Popular Front Party, has been on a hunger strike for 37 days protesting against the illegal arrest and demanding release from custody.
"My father's health has worsened even more. He can't walk anymore. In recent days, he has fainted 5 times. He lost 26 kg. He suffers from diabetes, and he has a heart stent," the son of the oppositionist told Turan on March 15 after a telephone conversation with his father.
According to him, the activist has not yet been transferred to the medical unit of the pre-trial detention center and has not been examined by doctors.
Also, Salaev is still not allowed to meet with his family.
The attempts to get information about Zamin Salayev's health from the Penitentiary Service were futile.
On March 11, representatives of the Ombudsman visited Salayev. "There were appeals to the Prosecutor General's Office and the Main Medical Department of the Ministry of Justice on his issue," said Emil Shahzade, the head of the press service of the Ombudsman's office.
On February 8, the Garadagh District Court of Baku arrested Zamin Salayev for three months. A criminal case has been initiated against him under the Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (hooliganism – use of force) and he faces up to 5 years in prison.
Zamin Salayev said in court that the accusation against him is false. "I didn't attack anyone, on the contrary, I defended myself from the attack. When I got out of a taxi in the Lokbatan district of Baku, I was insulted by an unknown person and who attacked me with a knife. I realized that this was a provocation and began to defend myself and ran away. A couple of minutes later, I was detained by plainclothes policemen and taken to the Garadagh police department," Salayev said on February 20 at the Baku Court of Appeal.
The court did not satisfy his complaint.-03B06-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
