Yerevan makes it clear that it agrees to Karabakh's autonomy within Azerbaijan
Baku/15.03.22/Turan: Official Yerevan has responded to Baku's five-point proposal to resolve the Karabakh conflict. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said that the proposal was forwarded to Yerevan on March 10.
When it comes to the proposals, both countries have already mutually recognized the territorial integrity and absence of territorial claims towards each other by signing the "CIS Agreement" on December 8, 1991, Mirzoyan told "Armenpress" agency.
"For the Armenian side the main and fundamental thing is to guarantee the rights and freedoms of Karabakh Armenians and the final clarification of the status of Nagorno Karabakh. For us, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is not a territorial issue but a question of rights," he noted.
The Armenian side responded to Azerbaijan's proposal with this issue in mind, Mirzoyan added.
Touching upon the delimitation and demarcation of borders, he said that the agreements reached in trilateral statements on November 9, 2020, January 11, 2021 and November 26, 2021 should be fully implemented.
The Armenian side proposed the implementation of these agreements with the mirror withdrawal of troops and the introduction of the international monitoring mechanism.
As for the format of the negotiations on the peace treaty, the Armenian Foreign Ministry has already applied to the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to organize the talks on the basis of the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act, Mirzoyan said.
It may be concluded from the above statements that Yerevan is ready to recognize Karabakh as a part of Azerbaijan, but demands to provide Armenians with the status and security guarantees to be fixed at the international level.-02D-
