Azerbaijani Carpets Make Their Debut at Istanbul’s Atatürk Culture Center

Exhibition to Feature Unique 21st-Century Carpet Set for Later Display in Izmir

A vibrant showcase of Azerbaijani carpets spanning various historical periods has opened its doors at Istanbul’s prestigious Atatürk Culture Center, according to the Turan Information Agency. The exhibition, organized by the Harı Bülbül Azerbaijan Vision Theater Association, Tek Hedefimiz Education Association, and the Azerbaijan Culture Center under the auspices of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara, presents thirty exquisite pieces from the personal collection of Elnarə Rəsulova.

Among the displayed works are carpets from the 21st century, notable for their unique designs that remain unmatched globally. Additionally, the exhibition features contemporary pieces that echo the spirit of modernity. A standout piece, the “Father’s Will – Son’s Victory” carpet, has garnered particular attention for its intricate composition and exceptional craftsmanship, resonating deeply with art aficionados.

Kəmalə Cabbarova, president of the Harı Bülbül Azerbaijan Vision Theater Association, addressed the opening event in a statement to Turan Information Agency. “We are delighted to present this valuable carpet collection to Turkish art enthusiasts,” Cabbarova said. “Our primary objective moving forward is to enhance Elnarə Rəsulova’s recognition among Turkish art lovers, both as an artist and a collector. Strengthening cultural ties between Turkey and Azerbaijan is of paramount importance to us.”

Cabbarova also highlighted the organization’s broader cultural initiatives. “We intended to showcase the collection of headscarves and women’s attire by the esteemed Gülzadə Abdulova in this exhibition. Although we faced some challenges, we remain committed to our projects. From staging dramatic works to publishing literary pieces, we have numerous endeavors underway. Our dedication to these initiatives is unwavering, and we will invest every day of the year to bring them to fruition.”

The Atatürk Culture Center stands as Turkey’s foremost cultural hub, regularly hosting exhibitions by internationally acclaimed painters and sculptors. The center’s opera theater also stages premier examples of operatic art. On September 27, the center unveiled an exhibition featuring prints and oil paintings by Pablo Picasso, a leading figure in 20th-century art. Currently, the center continues to celebrate the works of iconic artists such as Andy Warhol and Frida Kahlo, attracting art lovers from around the globe.

The Azerbaijani carpet exhibition not only enriches Istanbul’s cultural landscape but also reinforces the enduring artistic dialogue between Turkey and Azerbaijan, highlighting the shared heritage and contemporary creativity of the two nations.
