Union of Cinematographers Discussed State and Prospects of Azerbaijani Cinema
Baku / 05.06.19 / Turan: On June 4, Baku hosted a meeting of the Board of the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan (UCA).
As stated in the press release of the UCA, the meeting discussed preparations for the XI Congress of the Union, determined the agenda and the date of its holding. Members of the Board made proposals to protect the interests of national cinema and the prospects for the development of the domestic film industry.
Production problems of feature films, documentaries, animation films, film distribution organizations, mechanisms for selecting high-quality scenarios, and training personnel for films are not a complete list of topics that will be on the agenda of the 11th Congress of the UCA.
The UCA Board decided to establish the House of Cinema and to resume the activity of the film school. The projects will be launched on the eve of the professional holiday of Azerbaijani filmmakers - the National Cinema Day, celebrated on August 2.
The meeting also discussed the issue of awarding individual pensions and scholarships to members of the UCA. The decision of the Board approved the list of persons who will receive financial support.

On February 11, the Ritual Theatre and Creative Laboratory in Baku hosted a powerful documentary theatre performance, “The Melting Snow Stories of Baku,” marking the conclusion of a workshop dedicated to site-specific theatre. This workshop brought together 15 artists from various age groups, all exploring the transformative power of storytelling to address climate change. The event was directed by British theatre director Sebastian Harcombe of SECRET/HEART Theatre Company and Aynur Zərrintac of Ritual Theatre. It was supported by the British Council.
