Can peace come from Washington?
Baku/03.05.23/Turan: Armenian MP from the ruling Civil Contract party Arman Egoyan confirmed the report that the document that Armenia and Azerbaijan are planning to sign is called the "Agreement on Normalization of Relations". According to him, this is the document around the details of which the parties have been exchanging proposals all this time.
"Armenia is doing and will do everything to ensure that the dialogue between the representatives of Stepanakert and Baku takes place." Egoyan said this in an interview with journalists, commenting on the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the United States. According to Egoyan, the Armenian side is trying to ensure that Karabakh acts as a subject in the negotiations.
Armenian Service of Radio “Liberty” (“Azatutyun”) reported that one of the main topics at the talks between the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington is ensuring the rights and security of the Armenian population in Karabakh. Issues such as "self-determination" are not included in the agenda of the talks, only the "protection of the rights and security" of Armenians in accordance with Azerbaijani laws are being discussed, “Azatutyun” writes.
How will Russia react if a "road map" for establishing peace, a "framework peace agreement" or an "agreement on normalization of relations" is signed in Washington? What other countries in the region can commit a provocation to disrupt the signing or the prospect of this agreement? Information has spread in the media that the IRGC is supporting the separatists in Karabakh. An accident?
Political commentator Arastun Orujlu comments on these and other issues on the agenda in the "Difficult Question" program.
According to him, the Washington meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia is by no means accidental and unexpected. "At the beginning, after the 44-day war, Brussels (EU) joined the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which is not accidental," Orujlu said. In his opinion, Azerbaijan has been trying to force to surrender for a long time.
"There are plenty of those who have achieved this in the world. As for Russia, it tried to maintain parity, to prevent violations of the truce regime, since the preservation, freezing of the conflict was in its interests," the political scientist noted.
Nevertheless, Arastun Orujlu believes that despite all this, the results of the 44-day war, which created a new geopolitical reality, will contribute to the signing of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
