Russia must comply with all the provisions of the trilateral statement
Baku/16.08.21/Turan: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, in an interview with CNN TV channel, made statements regarding the development of events around Karabakh. In particular, he said that he expects Russia to fulfill all the provisions of the trilateral statement.
The head of the Azerbaijani state expressed his attitude to the statements of the defense ministers of Russia and Armenia following their recent meeting. He accused Armenia of evading the fulfillment of the terms of the peace agreement regarding the Zangezur corridor, the supply of weapons to Armenia and the dispatch of military personnel from Armenia to the territories that are the zone of responsibility Russian peacekeepers.
The political observer Zardusht Alizade commented on in the “Difficult Question” program the messages of the head of state, addressed to Russia and Armenia.
According to the observer, the most important, of course, is the statement concerning the expectation from Russia of fulfilling all the provisions of the trilateral statement. There are serious shortcomings in the application of the points of this statement, which do not allow achieving any positive result in the near future. This means that the uncertainty will continue.
Alizade believes that contrary to the message of Ilham Aliyev, Russia will not stop arming Armenia, preventing the penetration of the military from Armenia into the territories that are the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers.
According to the expert, the messages of Ilham Aliyev were preceded by behind-the-scenes talks, at which these issues were raised. Since these negotiations were unsuccessful, it was necessary to transfer the issues of fulfilling the terms of the trilateral agreement into the public plane.
Alizade noted that Russia also issued a statement. "The Russian Defense Ministry has spread a message that between the" armed forces of Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh. "Thus, on the one hand, Russia agrees that Karabakh is an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan. This, in fact, means that there can be no armed formations not belonging to Azerbaijan on this territory. However, Russia makes it clear that it de facto recognizes the existence of the "armed forces of Nagorno-Karabakh" in Karabakh and will do this until it gets what it wants from Azerbaijan.
Then, having thrown 200 Armenian soldiers across the Lachin corridor, she thereby warns - “if you don’t do what I tell you, then I will increase the number of Armenian soldiers in Karabakh”.
However, according to Alizadeh, these actions of Russia have no practical significance, because even if the number of Armenian soldiers, coupled with illegal formations of local Armenians, is even up to 2 thousand people, this is nothing compared to the 50-thousand-strong group of Azerbaijani troops in Karabakh.
“In an interview with CNN TV channel, Ilham Aliyev made it clear that the requirement to fulfill all the provisions of the trilateral statement is his position as the head of state. He also made it clear that he did not intend to succumb to pressure,” the expert is sure.-0-
