The issue of status is the main post-war discourse of the Armenian side
Baku/13.10.21/Turan: The question on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh still remains unsolved, said the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan at a meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin. In Moscow.
“Unfortunately, today we cannot talk about complete stabilization of the situation in our region. As you can see, the "Nagorno-Karabakh" conflict remains unresolved, and it is obvious that Russia plays an important role in resolving the conflict and ensuring security in our region. “I am glad to discuss this agenda with you,” Pashinyan said in the open part of the meeting. Earlier, it was stated in Baku that the Karabakh conflict was settled.
What does Pashinyan's such statement after the meeting in the Kremlin mean?
Political observer Rusif Huseynov answered these questions in the "Difficult Question" program.
According to the expert, the issue of the status of the mountainous part of Karabakh is the main post-war discourse of the Armenian side, they say “the conflict is not over yet the issue of status has not been discussed”. Repeating this thesis, the leadership of Armenia is trying to prolong the conflict.
At the same time, it should be understood that Armenia is increasingly moving away from the Karabakh process and, in fact, is no longer among its leading participants, he said. Earlier, Armenia's participation in the fate of the separatist entity was due to the fact that Azerbaijan did not recognize the Armenian community of Karabakh as an independent entity and Yerevan participated in the process as a patron.
After the Russian peacekeepers arrived in the Karabakh region, they de facto assumed patronage functions over the Armenian community, the situation changed dramatically and now the role of Armenia is not entirely clear, the expert noted.
According to him, despite this, Pashinyan and his team continue to make efforts to keep the issue of status on the agenda.
However, the political scientist noted, thanks to the efforts of the Azerbaijani side, the discourse is changing and instead of Karabakh, the issue of the Zangezur corridor is already coming to the fore. –0--
