What is Causing the Rise of Aggression in Society?

Lately, we often hear shocking crime news that is linked to a rise in aggression.

A few days ago, in the Khazar district of Baku, a father, after stabbing his two sons, killed one of them. The incident took place in the Binagadi settlement. Rza Eyubov, born in 1974, first inflicted multiple stab wounds on his son Ali Eyubov, born in 2014. The 10-year-old Ali died on the spot. Following this, the father stabbed his 4-year-old son Teymur Eyubov several times and then committed suicide.

Following this news, reports and video footage surfaced that the People's Artist Agadash Agayev injured a woman with an axe.

Almost every day, the media reports on the murders of women. On July 23, in the city of Khirdalan in the Absheron district, a 22-year-old woman was thrown out of her home. During the investigation, it was established that Huseyn Kazymov, born in 2002, during an argument, threw his wife Ayshan Kazymova out of the apartment window where they lived.

On July 20, the police received a report of the murder of 57-year-old Shukurzade Aybeniz Muhammad gizi in the Umid settlement of the Garadagh district. What is causing the rise of aggression in society?

Seeking answers to this question, the guest of the program "Complex Question," political psychologist Samira Gasimli, shared her insights.

According to her, she recently reviewed statistical data indicating that the rise in crime in Azerbaijan is characterized by an increase in serious crimes.

"The incidents you listed, which occurred over the past few days, only confirm this statistic," said the psychologist, noting that the level of aggression in society is rising and has become commonplace.

Gasimli observed that, according to social psychologists, aggression typically increases when the level of well-being in society falls significantly.

"The lower the level of well-being, the higher the level of aggression," said the expert, explaining that the awareness of the inability to provide well-being for their families contributes to people's growing aggression.

She also noted that dissatisfaction with management is a cause of rising aggression in society.

"People cannot change the situation, and as negativity continues to accumulate, they eventually start venting their anger on those who are weaker," Gasimli said.

Regarding the recent deaths of police officers, the expert noted that people in Azerbaijan do not expect the police to protect them; on the contrary, they distrust the police and expect trouble from them, thus trying to avoid any contact with them.

"This indicates that there is fear in society, and people do not look to the future with hope," Gasimli concluded.
