Azerbaijan undertook to gasify Albania: intergovernmental memorandum signed
On December 19, 2014 Azerbaijan and Albania signed the memorandum on mutual understanding and cooperation for development of a general plan for Albania’s gasification, reported press office of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
The statement reads that the memorandum has been signed during the visit of the Azerbaijani delegation comprised of Energy Minster Natig Aliyev, Deputy Foreign Minister Halaf Halafov and SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev to Albania.
During the visit members of the Azerbaijani delegation have met with Premier of Albania Eddy Rama, chairman of parliament Ilir Meta and Minister of Industry and Energy Damian Giknoori.
Albania is one of the European countries, which will receive Azerbaijani gas as a part of the Southern Gas Corridor. Albania has the lowest coefficient of gasification in Europe.
* SOCAR has been involved in gas distribution in Azerbaijan and Georgia. In June 2013 it won the tender to buy 66% shares of Greek DESFA company, which controls the gas distribution network of the country. However, the European Commission has not approved the deal yet.—0—
