Corporate Securities Market "Slowed Down" by 12%

In 2015, turnover of corporate securities in Azerbaijan amounted to 4,186,100,000 manats, which is 12% less than in the previous year.

As in 2014, the major player in the market is the state. If in 2014 the government placed and bought bonds of Southern Gas Corridor, last year this tool was bonds of Agrarkredit. In the secondary market the most popular are the bonds of the Mortgage Fund.

According to the State Securities Committee, last year the volume of transactions on shares (657 million manats) decreased by 49%. However, their primary market (272.8 million manats) due to the expiry of capital requirements for banks dipped by 76%. The opaque secondary market shares for the year reached a 2.7 fold growth and amounted to 384.1 million manats.

Total in 2015 there were concluded 4855 transactions on purchase and sale of shares and bonds of Azerbaijani companies, which is 25.7% less than in 2014.

The total amount of the purchase and sale of government securities (Treasury bonds) last year amounted to 144.5 million manats, which is 97% lower than in 2014.

More active operations were carried out through the BSE on derivative securities (currency pairs, metals and oil). During the year there were 48.8 thousand transactions signed, amounting to 6.2 billion manats (+41%).

Overall, in 2015 the volume of transactions on the securities market in Azerbaijan amounted to 10.5 billion manats, 21% less than in the previous year.

Experts point out that if measures are not taken this year to encourage demand, the remaining investors will leave the market. --08D
