Customs Officers Complain of Individuals Who Abuse Preferences

According to the Chairman of the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan Aydin Aliyev, some individuals circumvent the provisions on customs preferences, and this affects the budget revenues. In connection with which his department has prepared and submitted to the government proposals to tighten up.
Recall, according to the current text of the Customs Code, individuals have the right to import a limited number of goods not intended for production or commercial purposes without the payment of customs duties. The total value envisaged is up to $ 1.5 thousand plus $ 500 for each accompanied citizen who has not attained the maturity age.
The conference organized by the regional office of the International Network of Customs Universities, Baku Higher School of Oil and Academy of State Customs Committee was attended by Member of the Advisory Board of the International Network of Customs Universities Lars Karlsson, Rector of Baku Higher School of Oil Elmar Gasimov, Vice President of BP for Relations with Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, Foreign Affairs and Strategies Bakhtiyar Aslanbeyli and other officials. --17D-

In a significant step towards fostering cashless transactions, Azerbaijan has extended its innovative "Return VAT" program to include real estate purchases. Between January and November 2024, citizens recovered 160.3 million manat through the program, marking a notable milestone in the government’s efforts to promote digital payments and enhance consumer benefits.

Entrepreneurs operating in markets across Azerbaijan will be required to register for taxation. Failure to do so will result in a financial penalty of 2,000 manat for each unregistered entrepreneur, imposed on market owners or administrators. This requirement is included in proposed amendments to the Tax Code, set to be discussed in Parliament.
