Expert: ‘Tourism Sphere Needed Advice’
The establishment of the Tourism Council will provide an opportunity to quickly solve problems in this area, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Tourism Association Nahid Bayramov said.
‘This area was in need of such a coordinating body,’ Bayramov told Turan, commenting on the order of President Ilham Aliyev on the establishment of the Tourism Council.
Bayramov believes the composition of the Council will include heads of state structures of the economic block, as well as the activities of government agencies, which in some way relate to tourism.
‘It's no secret that we are currently experiencing a tourist boom. It is evident that such a pace will increase the number of tourists. A quantitative increase accordingly requires the solution of related problems and rapid response. The presence of this Council will help eliminate the obstacles in an expeditious manner,’ Bayramov said.
It is yet not clear if the work of the Tourism Council will be duplicated with the work carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
In 2001, the Ministry of Youth and Sports was added the function of tourism overseeing. Then, in 2006, in the course of institutional change the Ministry of Culture and Tourism was created.
Note that a little research in this area has revealed that there are such Tourism Councils in many countries. They are responsible for the whole sphere of tourism and actually play the role of the Ministry in this area.
For example, in Sweden, currently operates Visit Sweden, the official agency representing the Swedish brand in international markets and responsible for the promotion of the country as a tourism and travel destination. The agency was founded in 1995 on the basis of the Swedish Tourist Council.
The Catalan Tourism Council is called Turisme de Catalunya, which has offices in Europe and the CIS. It is engaged in the marketing and promotion of the brand Catalonia as a tourist destination, supporting the tourism industry and revealing the opportunities for tourism in Catalonia for overseas markets.
The Singapore Tourism Council is an agency whose actions are aimed at the development of Singapore's most important sector of the economy, i.e. tourism. The mission is a priority development of tourism in Singapore, which is turning into a driving force of the national economic growth. -76D-
