Improved Water Purification System Entering Absheron Peninsula
In the Absheron district on October 28 with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev there was held an opening ceremony of the complex Jeyranbatan ultra filtration water treatment plants of JSC Azersu.
The foundation of ultra-filtration water treatment plant with a capacity of 6.6 cubic meters per second, or 570,000 cubic meters per day was laid on September 8, 2011 with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev on the territory of the Jeyranbatan water management, the press service of the President said.
Recycled water in the complex is transferred to consumers through a water main Jeyranbatan-Zira. Construction of the 61-kilometer water pipeline Jeyranbatan-Balakhani-Raman-Gala was completed in 2013, and the construction of 22.5 kilometers of the Gala-Zira - in 2014.
For the rational allocation of water supplied through the water pipe Jeyranbatan-Balakhani-Raman-Gala Zira, designed mainly for water supply of towns and villages of the Apsheron Peninsula, providing uninterrupted water supply in the area, along the aqueduct route Saray, Balakhani, Ramana, Gala and Zira there were built storages with a capacity of 90 thousand cubic meters. In the future, it envisages the construction of new reservoirs in Masazir and Binagadi, as well as expansion of existing reservoirs, so that water reserves are created in the amount of more than 200 thousand cubic meters. This will ensure a stable, steady hydraulic regime on water mains and distribution networks, as well as uninterrupted water supply during accidents and planned stoppages.
The Jeyranbatan ultra filtration complex of water treatment plants and the water main project Jeyranbatan-Zira will help provide sustainable drinkable water supply to the city of Baku and other settlements of the Absheron Peninsula, including the settlement Pirallahi.
Ultra filtration is a modern and advanced method of purification process, reverse, wastewater and drinking water, as well as water from surface sources. It is also called membrane cleaning method.
The construction of a membrane water treatment plant provides undeniable advantages:
no reagents weighed in the raw water;
automatic mode of operation, ease of management and maintenance;
low consumption of water for its own needs;
absence of bacteria in purified water and simplify the process of decontamination. -0-

Azerbaijan’s economy, which is heavily dependent on oil revenues, faces a stark warning in the 2021 report by Carbon Tracker titled “Beyond the Oil States: The Urgent Need to Reduce Dependence on Oil in the Context of the Energy Transition.” The report ranks Azerbaijan among the most vulnerable oil-dependent countries, placing it in the "5th group" — a category reserved for nations expected to experience a decline in oil and gas revenues exceeding 40% over the next decade. This group includes Angola, Bahrain, Timor-Leste, Equatorial Guinea, Oman, and South Sudan, highlighting shared economic risks for these states.

In Azerbaijan, the government has increasingly relied on tax exemptions for imported goods as a tool to stabilize domestic market prices. The exemption from the 18% VAT on wheat imports, extended this year, exemplifies this approach. New measures have also been introduced, including tax relief on imports of electric vehicle chargers, while exemptions for high-cost medications are currently under discussion. Notably, defense imports continue to be free from taxes and customs duties.
