In Azerbaijan, the Consumption of Toothpaste Underestimated by 4.4 times
Consumption of the means of mouth and teeth care is growing in Azerbaijan. However, if you trust the official statistics, the average Azeri uses toothpaste 4.4 times less than the rate recommended by physicians - 7 tubes per year.
According to the State Customs Committee, in 2013 Azerbaijan imported 1,117.9 tons of toothpaste and other means for the oral cavity care. Compared with the previous year (1 082.1 tons), the imports rose by 3.3%.
Annual consumption of toothpaste and other oral care means in Azerbaijan is about 120 ml or 2 tubes. In Germany, for example, in 2009, the average citizen brushed his teeth with 5.4 tubes per year. But, in Armenia (population - 3 million people), for example, in 2013 the per capita import was 160 ml of toothpaste.
The main players in the market for toothpaste and other oral care means in Azerbaijan are Colgate (manufacturer Colgate Palmolive), Blend-a Med (Procter & Gamble), Aguafresh and Sensodyne (GlaxoSmithKline), which accounts for approximately 75% of the turnover.
The price of toothpaste depending on the packaging and destination varies from 0.60 to 3.5 AZN. Also offered are pastes with composition of organic and medicinal properties, the value of which reaches 8 manat.
Official sources have no information on the local production of toothpaste. However the Customs records for 2013 refer to the export of raw materials in the volume of 6.2 tons.
Toothpaste comes to Azerbaijan mainly from Turkey (458 tons), the UK (239.9 tons), Switzerland (211 tons), Germany (45.1 tons), Russia (97.4 tons), Poland (22.8 tons ), Ukraine (5.4 tons), Georgia (8.3 tons), China (7.4 tons), UAE (3.7 tons), the United States (2.3 tons) and Italy (2.2 tons).
It is noteworthy that a ton of toothpaste and other oral care means was imported from Turkey to Azerbaijan at 1,236.7 US dollars and the Swiss paste of the same amount was imported $ 6,000 more expensively. Toothpastes from Russia are imported at an average of $ 1,570 per ton.
In the first half of this year, imports of toothpaste and other oral cavity care means were only 436.5 tons, and the goods were declared a total of $ 984,400.
In 2013, 1 ton of toothpaste and oral care means was imported to Azerbaijan at the price of $ 2,710, while the Armenian customs cleared these goods at an average price of $ 8,560.
In 2013, Georgia (population - 4.5 million people) imported these goods worth a total of $ 7,145,500, which is 13.5% more than in 2012. -- 08B-
