Imports of Passenger Cars Decreased by 38.5%
In the first ten months of this year Azerbaijan imported 47,379 cars, up 38.5% less than in the comparable period of 2013, according to the State Customs Committee.
Domestic economic processes in Azerbaijan (the ban on the importation of cars older than 8 years, stricter environmental regulations on exhaust emissions, fuel price hike and the introduction of high tariffs for parking, constant traffic jams on the roads and so forth) led to a sharp reduction in imports of cars.
According to customs statistics, approximately one-third of the imported cars are second-hand vehicles: in the first half of this year from the 30,917 cars 19,657 were second-hand.
This year, suddenly increased imports of Chinese cars because of low cost and improving quality. In the first half of the year dealers and distributors bought 1,252 cars from this country.
Since the beginning of the year has decreased the supply of other types of vehicles. In January-October delivered to Azerbaijan were 270 buses (minus 420 units), 4,135 trucks (minus 2283) and 312 special machinery (minus 425). This is due not only to the saturation of the market, but also the decline in economic activity. --08B--
