Local Cigarettes Replace Imported Brands
In January of this year, Azerbaijan produced 232.8 million cigarettes. This is 78.7% more than in the same month of 2015. The growth of the local tobacco production comes amid a sharp decline in imported cigarette brands.
According to the State Statistics Committee, the production of cigarettes in January was 5 million 671.5 thousand manats, 38.2% more than in the same period last year.
It is noteworthy that according to the same official sources, the retail price of cigarettes in the past month increased 36.6%. In annual terms, cigarettes went up by 169%, the State Statistics Committee reported.
According to the State Customs Committee, in January of this year, imports of tobacco and cigarettes were $ 5 million 443.5 thousand, while in the same month in 2015 the figure was $ 33.3 million.
