Ministry of Economy on Public Transport Fares
The Tariff (Price) Council (TC) does not consider the revision of tariffs for trips in public city transport. Turan was told by the spokesman of the Ministry of Economy, Abbas Aliyev.
The representative of the Ministry of Economy said the issue was not on the agenda of the TC. Moreover, neither the Baku Metro, nor the Ministry of Transport has applied to the Board with such proposals.
Rumors of the impending increase in the fare for the subway began to spread after the increase in the electricity tariff by 16.6% in July this year. It was rumored that the fare for the subway and bus will be increased from 20 to 30 gepiks.
Fares in the Baku Metro were last revised in December 2011. According to the report of the Accounting Chamber, the cost of travel in the metro is 33 gepiks, excluding depreciation costs.
The Ministry of Transport last applied to the TC with the proposal to increase the fares on buses due to unprofitability of several routes in 2014. However, the Council has not considered these proposals. ----08B
