Reduced the Proportion of Women in Azerbaijan

Despite selective abortion in the provinces widespread in recent years, the proportion of women in the population of Azerbaijan is 50.2% as of February 1. In absolute terms, this is 4 million 820.2 thousand people.

As follows from the State Statistics Committee on the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, 57.1% of women are in their reproductive age (on average, there are 2.2 children per woman).

The influence of selective abortion is proved by the fact that of the 170,500 neonates born in 2013 (the last year for reporting is not yet ready) 46.4% were girls.

The country has 21 maternity hospitals, 152 antenatal clinics, and 282 children's polyclinics. The average life expectancy of women in Azerbaijan is 76.8 years, which is 5.2 years longer than the average life expectancy of the male population.

On average, women make up 48.8% of the employed population. Among the employees of educational institutions the share of the fairer (or beautiful, as you like) sex is 76.6%, in secondary educational institutions - 75.1%, and in higher education institutions - 48.8%. Women accounted for 64.9% of physicians of the country.

Girls make up 45.8% of the total number of students of educational institutions, 67.4% - secondary specialized educational institutions, 48.5% of the total number of students in higher education.

The proportion of women among the total number of doctoral students in Azerbaijan is 50% and among scientists - 53.2%.

Women make up 27.7% of civil servants of the country, 19% of the total number of entrepreneurs and 40.2% of the workers of physical culture and sports.

15.6% of the deputies of the main legislative body, the Milli Majlis, are women.

According to the results of recent municipal elections (assignment), the number of women reached 5 236 (35% of the employees of municipal bodies).

The number of women drivers increases. If in 2005 at the wheel of the car there were 2 285, last year the number of women drivers reached 10 278 people. --17D-
