SOCAR involves US companies into oil refinery upgrade
US UOP company has beсome a licensor of several new installations, which will be built at the Baku-based Heydar Aliyev oil refinery, reads information posted on SOCAR’s web site.
The license agreement was signed between SOCAR and UOP in Baku yesterday. The following installations will be built by the company’s license: catalytic cracking installation, hydraulic cleaning of naphtha installation, isomerization installation, the installation for oxidization of mercaptan for purification of unsaturated liquefied gas, the installation for amine cleaning, the installation for sulfides oxidization and etc.
SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said at the signing ceremony that SOCAR established cooperation with UOP long time ago. In particular, the catalytic reforming installation has been built by the UOP license. The company has also worked out feasibility study of reconstruction of the oil refinery and construction of a new oil and gas refinery and the petrochemical complex.
Construction of several installations at the Turkish Star oil refinery owned by SOCAR is done by the US company’s license.
It was earlier reported citing Abdullayev that at the end of 2015 SOCAR plans to start upgrade of the oil refinery and it will be completed at the end of 2018. This will allow beginning production of high quality petrol and diesel fuel up to Euro 5 standards and satisfy the country’s need in this type of fuel till the mid-2030s.—0--

Data on Azerbaijan's oil exports for January-October 2024 reveals a significant drop in both volume and value compared to the same period last year, highlighting the challenges facing the oil-dependent economy. The country exported 495,484.05 tons of oil products worth $309.02 million, a decrease of 40.3% in value and 40.7% in volume compared to 2023, when exports totaled 925,225.07 tons worth $572.21 million.
