SOCAR"s daughter company started exploration drilling in Israel

Azerbaijan Caspian Drilling Company Ltd (CDC), operator of development of Shemen perspective field on the offshore shelf of Israel, has started drilling of the first exploration well, CDC General Director Farid Axundov told Trend.

Last year Israeli CDCACC Holdings International and BH Shemen Oil and Gas Exploration "2010" Ltd (ACC Group) signed the agreement on the basic principles. A month ago the sides have signed the operation agreement (JOA), which allows CDC carrying out works on the perspective field.

"We have started the process and the installation of the drilling contractor Atwood Oceanics is already standing on the drilling site. We have successfully started the first stage of the drilling works and drove the slip box on the depth of 72 meters," Axundov said.

The preparation for the drilling process is currently in progress right now, he added.

Axundov added that the first stage of drilling of 28-inch section is planned to be completed on December 9, 2012 and then the drilling works will be continued.

Shemen perspective field consists of two blocs. According to the schedule, the first exploration well drilling is planned to be completed within six months and then the second well will be drilled on the second bloc, which is included in the contract area. The depth of the first exploration well is 5800 meters.

After the exploration drilling, the company will, possibly, have to drill one evaluation well to define the place for installation of the stationary platform. Axundov added that the exploration wells, which will be drilled on the field, are designed in the way that they could be used as operation wells, if the results are successful.

Axundov said that CDC with the partners has another license for the operations on the Israeli perspective offshore field Oz. 3D seismic exploration has been already carried out on the field, interpretation of the data is currently in progress and it will be completed in January 2013.

On the basis of the geophysical data CDC and its partners will determine advisability of exploration drilling on this field.

CDC, in which State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), has 92.44% of share, is involved in all the production sharing agreements (PSA) in Azerbaijan, it also took part in discovery of the Shah-Deniz gas condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea as the main contractor of the BP-Azerbaijan, the project operator. The company has a big experience of drilling on the offshore fields and it is been involved in drilling on the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli bloc of fields and Shah-Deniz field.-0--
