Transport Minister admits the deficiencies in the road construction
The quality of the projects for capital repair and construction of roads does not meet standards, roads are of poor quality, and many projects are beyond the contract time, said at the week's board meeting the Minister of Transport, Ziya Mammadov.
The Minister noted that many contractors do not execute projects on time. He demanded to tighten controls over the management of the projects. He criticized the work of road- exploitation department for the low level of control. Ziya Mammadov demanded to take the "necessary measures" against illegal buildings along roads.
The representatives of "Azeryolservis", contracting companies, also spoke at the meeting.
The press service of the Ministry of Transport did not state whether the financial issues were discussed. Independent experts point out that part of public funds for road construction become a food for corruption.
In 2012, under the Ministry of Transport there were built and renovated 537.2 km of roads and 25 bridges built. In addition, in the city of Baku , the Transport Ministry paved 2.8 km of new roads (main road along the State Flag Square) and repaired 104.4 km of roads. 08D
