Ayaz Mutalibov lays a wreath at the memorial to Khojaly
On Friday afternoon the first president of Azerbaijan, Ayaz Mutalibov, visited the memorial to the victims of the Khojaly tragedy in the Khatai district of Baku, and laid a wreath.
Mutalibov stayed at the memorial a few minutes, and did not make any statements.
The capture of Khojaly by the Armenians and massacre in the city occurred during the presidency of Mutalibov, on February 25-26, 1992. The Khojaly tragedy caused the resignation of Mutalibov 10 days later - on March 6. Later, a lawsuit was filed against Mutalibov on several charges, one of which was the failure to act during an attack on Khojaly.
Mutalibov lived in exile in Moscow for 20 years, and was able to return to Azerbaijan only in 2012, having concluded a gentlemen's agreement with the authorities. Prior to that, parliament adopted a law on ex-presidents, guaranteeing their security and social security, which now applies to Mutalibov. -03В-
