Water consumption decreased
In 2012, consumers in Azerbaijan were delivered 244.6 million cubic meters of water. This is 5.4% less than in the previous year. According to the State Statistics Committee, in 2012, the supply of water (including cleaning and waste treatment) amounted to 190.3 million manat, which is 1.3% higher than in 2011. This is due primarily to changes in the structure of water users. For consumers of water for commercial purposes one cubic meter of water costs three times as much (1 manat) than for the population.
According to experts, the role of factors reducing water consumption is played by tariff increase in February 2011 and the installation of water meters. Of the 1.115 million subscribers around half is provided with water meters. The fact that less water-consuming is due to the standards, according to which the flow of water to subscribers, who do not have meters, is calculated as 5 cubic meters per person per month. As practice shows, subscribers with counters consume one third less water.
Notably, the state company Azersu (the water supplier) has not fulfilled the government's decision on the full supply of water measuring devices to the consumers in 2011-2012. During this period, other monopoly utilities (Azerenergy and Azerigas) managed to equip consumers with electricity and gas smart meters and mechanical ones. - 08B-
