Things are heading towards early elections ...

The abrupt cancellation of the Turkish President's scheduled visit to Washington on May 9 has sparked speculations of deep-seated tensions and unmet expectations between Turkey and its long-standing allies in the United States, the European Union, and NATO. This development underscores potential dissatisfaction with Ankara's handling of its relations with Moscow amidst broader geopolitical shifts.

In the words of Necmettin Erbakan, a colorful face of Turkish politics, as Iran's "cosmetic attack" on Israel did not cause alarm in Turkey, claims that some authorized representatives warned Israel earlier were not taken seriously in Tel Aviv.

Immediately after Saturday's Iranian attack on Israel, some commentators talked about the beginning of World War III and the expansion of the theater of operations, including the territory of Iran itself.  However, the parties were content with the overnight incident to present their point of view on the event and its consequences.

By and large, the decision of the Turkish Ministry of Commerce to restrict exports to Israel is due to the upcoming visit of President R.T. Erdogan to Washington on May 9. If domestic politics could have been important for making this decision, then the authorities would have heeded the appeal of Fatih Erbakan, the chairman of the New Welfare Party (NWP) (“Yeniden Refah” Partisi,) made a few days before the elections on March 31: "If you want us to withdraw our candidate for mayor of Istanbul, stop trading with Israel."
