A well-known drug lord was killed in Bishkek
Bishkek/05.10.23/Turan: In a daring operation in the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, the State National Security Service (SSNB) successfully conducted a high-stakes mission resulting in the demise of notorious criminal figure Kamchibek Kolbayev, widely recognized as "Kolya Kirghiz," as reported by the Kyrgyz service of Radio Liberty.
The operation unfolded on October 4 at the "Blonder Pub" restaurant, where Kolbayev was tragically shot down. The State Security Service stated that Kolbayev, a prominent criminal figure, put up armed resistance when law enforcement officers moved in to crack down on criminal groups.
Media outlets have identified Kolbayev as a "thief in law" and one of the early representatives of the upper echelons of the criminal underworld in the post-Soviet sphere.
The significance of Kolbayev's international notoriety cannot be overstated. He found himself on the radar of U.S. authorities, who categorized him as one of the world's leading drug traffickers. American law enforcement agencies pointed to Kolya Kirghiz as a key figure associated with the international syndicate known as the "Fraternal Circle," an organization uniting individuals from the former USSR.
In a pivotal move, then-U.S. President Barack Obama included Kolbayev on the list of major foreign drug kingpins in 2012. The gravity of the situation led the U.S. State Department to offer a substantial reward of $5 million for any information that would aid in the location, apprehension, or disruption of the financial networks connected to Kolya Kirghiz's organization.
