DW: On the night of Saturday, February 3, Russian troops launched 14 Shahed-136/131 drones and two X-59 aircraft missiles across Ukraine, the Ukrainian Air Force command reported. According to him, a “significant part” of drones, as on the night of February 2, attacked energy infrastructure facilities in the Dnepropetrovsk region.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) shot down nine UAVs in the Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa, Nikolaev and Zhytomyr regions. It is not specified whether the missiles were shot down.
In the Dnepropetrovsk region, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down five drones, but there were also several hits, said the head of the region’s military administration, Sergei Lysak. “Two fires broke out. There are almost 15,000 people in the area without electricity. And also two boiler houses in Krivoy Rog, which provide 43,000 subscribers. The city’s high-speed tram is partially de-energized. Also, some families were left without water supply,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.
The head of the Krivoy Rog Defense Council, Alexander Vilkul, said that Russian troops hit the city’s energy infrastructure facility. According to him, by 7.00 (8.00 Moscow time) 7,500 subscribers were left without electricity in the Metallurgical District. The city is introducing emergency shutdown schedules.
The previous night, Russian troops launched 24 Shahed attack drones into Ukraine. As the Ukrainian Armed Forces stated, they managed to shoot down 11 UAVs. One of the drones damaged the Ukrenergo power substation; about 40 thousand subscribers were left without electricity in Krivoy Rog, including two mines.
Russian troops carry out drone strikes on Ukrainian territory almost every day. The targets of attacks are often critical and energy infrastructure facilities. Krivoy Rog is an important industrial center and the hometown of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
