The IAEA mission has arrived in Kiev
UNİAN: A group of 14 United Nations nuclear energy monitoring experts has arrived in Kiev ahead of a planned visit to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant occupied by Russia this week.
This is reported by CNN.
Members of the delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were spotted by journalists at their hotel in the Ukrainian capital early on Tuesday morning.
The mission is headed by the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi. On Monday, Grossi wrote on Twitter: "This day has come, the IAEA Support and Assistance Mission in Zaporozhye is on its way. We must ensure the safety of the largest nuclear facility in Ukraine and Europe."
As UNIAN reported, on August 25, the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine announced the de–energization of the NPP - there was a shutdown of the last of the four overhead lines, which caused the sixth power unit of the station to disconnect from the power grid.
On August 26, two power units of the NPP were reconnected to the grid after the shutdown and produce electricity for the needs of Ukraine.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the IAEA and other international organizations should act much faster than now.
The head of the IAEA, Rafael Mariano Grossi, said he was ready to personally lead a mission to the station in the coming days to help stabilize the nuclear safety situation. Later, the media reported that the group included, in addition to Grossi, 13 more experts from mostly neutral countries. In particular, these are experts from Poland and Lithuania, friendly to Ukraine, as well as representatives of China and Serbia, friendly to Russia.
