Why do parents want their children to study in the Russian sector? Is it love for Russia?
Baku/30.08.22/ Turan: On the eve of the new academic year, the public, As in previous years, the public discusses on social networks the issues of studying in the Russian language and the Russian sector. At the same time, we are witnessing how parents who want their children to study in the Russian sector express dissatisfaction in front of schools and education departments. And this desire, in turn, causes dissatisfaction of many citizens.
Why is this request of parents who want their children to study free of charge in the Russian sector is criticised? If this desire of parents is caused by love for Russia?
Philosopher Yasemin Garagoyunlu shares her thoughts on this issue in the “Difficult Question” program.
According to her, one of the main attributes of independence is the language and the state language of our country is Azerbaijani Turkic, although it is called Azerbaijani in the Constitution. And education in every country should be in the state language.
“Education in the state language is the key to the formation of a political nation and plays the role of a guarantor of the independence and sovereignty of the country, its strengthening, serves to strengthen the connection between the state and society. The German philosopher Martin Heidegger in his book "Letter on Humanism" writes: "Language is the House of Being." What does this mean? This means that “In language there occurs the revelation of beings … . In the power of language man becomes the witness of Being.”
And if there is no Azerbaijani-Turkic existence, then there is no Azerbaijani Turkic. If you are independent, then you speak your language, you normalize your culture in your language. There is no Azerbaijani culture,” Garagoyunlu said.
According to the philosopher, the nation positions itself in the international political arena, not only and not so much due to the presence of the state, but thanks to the language and culture. And if the Azerbaijani state wants to position itself in the international political arena, then without fail it must do it in its own language, which is the backbone of its culture.
“To speak the native language, to receive education in the native language, is the self-affirmation and self-identification of the nation, the main attribute. That is why a call appeared in Azerbaijan - "Education should be in Azerbaijani-Turkic, and not in Russian!". It is addressed to those who want their children to study for free in the Russian sector,” she noted.
Garagoyunlu believes that there are several reasons for the negative attitude towards the desire to educate children in Russian a well. “The first reason is socio-psychological and is related to the fact that 30 years ago, all secondary schools and universities carried out a total propaganda of Russian culture. This, as well as the way of life of the “elite stratum”, the elite educated in Russian, has always caused rejection among the people. The second reason is that, despite the fact that 30 years have passed since the collapse of the empire, in Russia they still look at the post-Soviet countries as their patrimony,” says the scientist philosopher.
