Two Armenians convicted of espionage in favor of Azerbaijan
On Wednesday, a court in Yerevan acquitted one of the three defendants accused of collaboration with the intelligence agencies of Azerbaijan. Two others were found guilty. According to news.am, Rafik Papoyan and Karine Gumashyan were found guilty of treason, and are sentenced to 14 and 12 years in prison. The son of Rafik Papoyan, Sergei Papoyan, was found not guilty and released.
According to the investigation, Rafik Papoyan was recruited in Turkey by representative of the special services of Azerbaijan. Papoyan choose among arrivals to Turkey from Armenia persons recruited for espionage. Karine Gumashyan was recruited in 2013, by an employee of the Azerbaijani special services, who introduced himself as Armand.
