Activist Elshan Kerimov sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment
Public activist Elshan Kerimov, charged with openly calling for forceful seizure of power, was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment.
The sentence was handed down on 28 January by the Baku Court for Serious Crimes presided over by Sabukhi Huseynov.
The prosecutor asked to sentence Elshan Kerimov to 7 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
Recall that the activist was detained on 17 April this year in the village of Rustamly, Yevlakh region. The Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal case against him under Article 281.1 of the Criminal Code (open calls for seizure of power by force).
On 19 April, the Binagadi district court sentenced Kerimov to 3 months of imprisonment.
In reality, Elshan Kerimov posted publications on social networks in defence of political prisoners - activists of the PPFA, members of other political parties, public figures and journalists arrested in Azerbaijan.
