Ahmet Davutoglu: Armenians and Turks have to break stereotypes
Deportation of Armenians in 1915 was an inhumane step, and Turkey has never supported it. According to the correspondent of Hurriyet Daily News, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told about it in Yerevan, who had arrived there to attend a meeting of the BSEC. During the visit, a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian took place.
"We are very pleased with the meeting with Nalbandian , it was sincere. Main purpose of the meeting is to create an atmosphere of dialogue on a solid ground," said Davutoglu.
After the meeting, the Turkish minister denied that he offered Armenia to liberate two regions of Nagorno- Karabakh to Azerbaijan. Davutoglu expressed a hope that the collective consciousness between the two countries will be created with the help of "fair memory."
"When we say "fair memory" we mean that we need to know the facts. Then we will see that the Armenian- Turkish relations can not be compared with the German-Jewish relations. Deportation of Armenians in 1915 was the wrong move. It was inhuman," said Davutoglu. He added that official Yerevan wants Ankara to recognize the deportation during World War I as genocide, but Turkey has steadfastly refused to do it. "However, with this approach, those who write history should remember that in Turkey think that Armenians committed treason, and that was the reason for the deportation." It is necessary to break down these two stereotypes, and said that Davutoglu Turkey did it back in 2005, and Armenia - no. The Turkish minister said that Turkey's priority objective is not the opening of the Armenian- Turkish border. "The main purpose is to create a framework that will pave the way for a comprehensive peace in the region" said the Turkish diplomat.
According to him, it needs three basic prerequisites, in particular, the relations between Turkey and Armenia, the Azerbaijani-Armenian relations and relations between Turks and Armenians.-02D-
