Ali Hasanov: West should not give order us
The chief ideologist of the authorities, Ali Hasanov has rejected international criticism on the arrests of human rights defenders. In an interview with Azertaj agency he called "biased and non-objective" statement by the High Representative for Foreign Policy, Catherine Ashton, and EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Affairs, Stefan Fule, who condemned the arrests of human rights defenders Rasul Jafarov, Leyla Yunus, and her husband Arif Yunus, and the persecution of civil society.
Hasanov regarded it as "pressure" on the investigation and the courts. "We would advise the European Union, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and others to stop this biased approach to Azerbaijan and the manifestation of double standards," he said.
According to Hasanov, Azerbaijan has great achievements in the field of democracy, but in Europe and the OSCE area there are many facts of gross violations of human rights. "Azerbaijan is an independent state and will not allow interference in its affairs," said Hasanov.-16D-
