Ali Insanov: No Pressure Can Scare Me
Former Health Minister Ali Insanov denied the new charges against him and said that nothing would induce him to give up the fight. Turan was told by his lawyer Togrul Babayev.
‘No charge, no pressure and no impact will ever force me to give up my struggle. I'm optimistic and calm. I will continue the fight until the end,’ the lawyer quoted the ex-minister.
According to him, Insanov was psychologically ready for the new charges. ‘His health is also no problem,’ Babayev said.
Recall that on August 24 in Jail No 13 Insanov serving his sentence was presented new charges under articles 234.1 (illegal purchase and storage of drugs or psychotropic substances), 315.2 (resistance or violence against a government representative) and 317-2.1 (manufacture, possession of prohibited items in a penitentiary institution) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
Insanov was arrested in October 2005 on charges of attempting a coup. Subsequently, however, the case was allocated in a separate proceeding and Insanov was sentenced to 11 years in prison for economic crimes.
Despite the fact that the European Court of Human Rights found a violation of the rights of Insanov, in Azerbaijan, the sentence was left unchanged.
During the trial, Insanov harshly criticized Azerbaijani authorities. Human rights organizations have recognized Insanov a political prisoner.
According to the lawyer Togrul Babayev, on August 24, the Garadagh district court decided to send Insanov to Jail No 1 in the village Kurdakhani in Baku until October 23. The investigation of the new charges is conducted by the Garadagh district prosecutor's office.
‘Ali Insanov does not accept the charges and refuses to give evidence to the investigation. He believes the charges are trumped up to keep him in detention, which expires in six months,’ said the lawyer. -03B-
