Aliyev and Nahyan discuss prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UAE
Baku/28.10.23/Turan: Bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were discussed on October 27 during a telephone conversation between the leaders of the two countries – President Ilham Aliyev and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Issues of investment, expansion of trade and economic ties, cooperation in the field of renewable energy, tourism and other areas were discussed, the press-service of the President.
Aliyev noted the importance of the construction of the Garadagh solar power plant in Azerbaijan by "Masdar" UAE, the opening of which took place the day before. The president regarded the participation the large delegation of the UAE, including 4 ministers at the opening ceremony of the solar power plant as an indicator of "friendship and partnership" between the two countries. He stressed that the Garadagh solar power plant with a capacity of 230 megawatts is the largest solar power plant in the region.
The Heads of state also discussed issues of cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international organizations, including the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement, etc. The telephone conversation took place on the initiative of the Azerbaijani side.
On October 27, Aliyev received a delegation of the UAE with the participation of the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Minister of Investment, and Minister of State for Economic Affairs. ---06B---

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
