Ankara and Ashgabat to Discuss Ways of Turkmen gas Supplies to Europe
Turkish President Erdogan paid an official visit to Turkmenistan. In talks with President Berdymuhammedov on Friday, he called for the transportation of Turkmen gas to Europe via Turkey.
According to him, this will ensure the energy security of Europe.
"We attach great importance to the transportation of Turkmen gas to Europe via Turkey and to providing energy security of Europe," he said.
For the organization of deliveries of Turkmen gas the TANAP pipeline will be used, whose construction has already begun and is being accelerated.
Turkey plays an important role in the supply of Azerbaijani gas to the West and in the future it will regard the Turkmen gas, Erdogan said, without specifying the route of delivery of Turkmen gas to Turkey.
Following the talks, the State Concern Turkmengaz and the Turkish company Atagaz signed a framework agreement on cooperation in the purchase and sale of natural gas.
We note that the European Union and the United States are actively lobbying for the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline on the seabed from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, Next it will be connected with the system of the Southern Gas Corridor and go through Georgia to Turkey. Further along the pipeline TANAP the gas will flow to Europe.
Currently TANAP is constructed for the purpose of supply of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field to Turkey via Georgia, and later to Greece, Albania and South Italy through the TAP (Trans Adriatic Pipeline).
It is planned to supply 6 billion cubic meters of gas to Turkey and 10 billion cubic meters to Europe via this pipeline. In the future the gas pipeline capacity can be increased to 31 billion cubic meters. -02D-
