Armen Sargsyan to Become New President of Armenia
Baku / 19.01.18 / Turan: Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan announced the name of the candidate from the ruling Republican Party for the post of the next President of the country today. It is the Armenian Ambassador to Great Britain and Ireland Armen Sargsyan. This was announced by Serzh Sargsyan today.
The elections will be held on March 2. The new President will be elected by the Parliament for a period of seven years.
Armen Sargsyan was born in Yerevan on June 23, 1953. He graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Yerevan State University (YSU). In 1992-1995, 1998-2000, and from 2013 he served as the Ambassador of Armenia to Great Britain. He was also an ambassador to the EU, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and the Vatican. In 1995-96 he headed Armenia's mission to the EU. From November 1996 to February 1997, he was the Prime Minister of Armenia. -0-
