Armenia will lose population of its six cities in 2021 - R. Kocharian
Baku/07.06.21/Turan: Predictions about the inevitable mass departure of Armenians from the region, as a result of the war lost in 2020, are coming true. Thus, in five months of this year, more than 78 thousand people left the country by air, the News.am website reports.
Commenting on this statistics, ex-President Robert Kocharian noted that in fact, the number of people that left the country is by two times more, taking into account the departure from Armenia by road to Georgia and further to other countries.
In his opinion, by the end of this year, the number of those who had left Armenia will reach 360,000 people. Most of them are able-bodied and defensive population. 360 thousand is 18% of the population of Armenia.
They are people from six largest cities of Armenia - Gyumri, Vanadzor, Vagharshapat, Abovyan, Kafan and Hrazdan. There are many residents of Karabakh who have Armenian passports. If we assume that 18% will also leave, then 27 thousand Armenians will leave Karabakh.
It should be noted that part of those leaving Armenia are labor migrants who leave to work. However, this year the statistics are higher. According to polls among the population of Armenia, 200 thousand people plan to leave Armenia forever this year, and the same number - next year. -0-
