Armenians Reject Idea of Karabakh Republic within Azerbaijan
The Armenians of Karabakh and official Yerevan have negatively reacted to the statement by President Ilham Aliyev on the possibility of the Karabakh Republic's status within Azerbaijan.
The first reaction came from the assistant leader of Karabakh separatists David Babayan, who called the proposal "ridiculous and frivolous."
The Foreign Ministry spokesman Tigran Balayan called the proposal an attempt to "turn reality on its head."
He further added that the status of Nagorno-Karabakh should be decided on the basis of the "will of the Nagorno-Karabakh people."
The deputy chairman of the ruling party Eduard Sharmazanov also called the idea "unacceptable". According to him, the international recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh's independence is a matter of time.
Recall that the possibility to give Karabakh the status of an autonomous republic was stated by Ilham Aliyev in an interview with the Russian journalist Dmitry Kiselyov, which was published on 18 October. -02D-
