The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) of Azerbaijan appointed on 18 August a meeting with the requirement to ensure the conditions for free and fair presidential elections on October 9. And the event will be a demonstration of support for the presidential candidate of NCDF Rustam Ibragimbekov.
These decisions were taken late in the evening on August 12 after the NCDF session, which was held at the headquarters of the "Classic" People's Front of Azerbaijan (PKNFA). At the end of the session to the press came the PKNFA leader Mirmahmud Miralioglu and head of the executive office of NCDF Eldar Namazov.
According to Miralioglu, NCDF wants to demonstrate achieving peaceful change of power, and the requirements to create conditions for democratic elections will be slogans of the NCDF rally to be held on Sunday, August 18 from 17.00 on 20.00.
The notice sent to the Baku City Executive Power notifies that 20,000 people are to participate in the rally.
In this case, the City Hall is proposed to authorize the meeting in one of the 4 places - on the square in front of the metro station Darnagul, the square in front of the cinema Tabriz, the area in front of the metro station Narimanov and the area of the driver's school for the 20th Plot.
The rally will put forward demands to create equal opportunities for all candidates for the presidency, removing barriers to registration of the candidate from NCDF Rustam Ibragimbekov, freedom of assembly and expression during election campaigns and political pluralism in the media. In addition, they will require release of political prisoners, securing property rights of citizens, stopping the demolition of property against the will of the citizens, etc.
Miralioglu reported that NCDF will fight to the end to take part in the elections with the single opposition candidate Ibragimbekov.
The question was discussed whether Ibragimbekov will appeal for the nomination of other candidates by NCDF in the case of the refused termination of his Russian citizenship and the inability to participate in the elections, Miralioglu answered in the affirmative.
However, according to him, to this issue NCDF members intend to return at the next session, to be held on August 19. In the view of Miralioglu, not yet exhausted all the possibilities for registering Rustam Ibragimbekov. At least before the meeting on August 18 there will be the only candidate from NCDF, Rustam Ibrahimbekov, and the action will also be an expression of support to him. -03C06 -
