Azerbaijan and Serbia sign a declaration on strategic partnership
During an official visit to Azerbaijan, President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic, February 7-9, will sign a package of four bilateral agreements, including joint declaration on friendship and strategic partnership.
The declaration includes questions of bilateral interest and cooperation in the world arena and support for the territorial integrity of each other. This was said at the press conference by the Serbian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zoran Vayovich.
According to him, today the legal basis of the two countries includes more than 21 documents.
Despite the high level of political dialogue, the potential of trade and economic cooperation is not fully used. Last year, the bilateral trade amounted to only $ 35 million.
One of the major projects of the past year was the loan for Serbia from Azerbaijan for the construction of the "Corridor-11" highway Lig - Prelin amounting to 308 million euros.
Serbia welcomes Azerbaijani investments in its economy. "In Serbia, the process of privatization and investment regards different areas, including tourism.
Three years ago, the Serbian side proposed the abolition of the visa regime for the citizens of the two countries. The Azerbaijani side is studying the proposal," he said.
Belgrade is also willing to participate in projects to transport natural gas from the Caspian region to Europe. However, in these issues Serbia is not a major player, said the ambassador.
Referring to the Karabakh settlement, the ambassador said that Serbia supports peaceful settlement on the basis of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Commenting on the plans of the Armenian side to open an airport in the town Khojaly, Vayovich noted that unilateral actions in this matter are not conducive to peace. -06C-
