"Azerbaijan and the United States have become partners in many areas" - Hugo Guevara

Baku/24.06.23/Turan: On June 23, a reception was organized at the US Embassy in Azerbaijan dedicated to the 247th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. Representatives of the government, parliament, civil society, political parties, media of Azerbaijan, as well as foreign diplomatic corps were invited to the reception.

This year the theme of the event was "Journey to America", reflecting 4 cities, symbolizing the cultural and geographical diversity of the country - Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco.

US Charge d'Affaires in Azerbaijan Hugo Guevara said that bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the United States of America (USA) have risen to the level of partnership.

“When our country declared its independence 247 years ago, few could have imagined that 13 small states located in a remote corner of the world would become friends and partners for the surrounding countries. As our strength and confidence grew, the United States chose to be a positive force in the world," he said.

He recalled that after the Second World War, the United States played a positive role in the reconstruction of Europe.

“Today, the United States is committed to supporting the territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty of Ukraine,” Guevara said.

He expressed the US commitment to working with Azerbaijan to achieve regional peace and stability, ensure Europe's energy security, expand bilateral trade and investment, and counter transnational threats.

"Over the past 30 years, Azerbaijan and the United States have become partners in many areas," Gevera said.

In turn, Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov recalled that last year marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“These relations developed in conditions of equal partnership and mutual interests. They have expanded in the field of energy security and the fight against terrorism,” Sharifov said.

He recalled that US President Joe Biden, in his congratulatory letter on the occasion of Azerbaijan's Independence Day, supported the strategic partnership between the countries and stressed that peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia would ensure stability in the entire region.

“We believe that the United States shares and will support efforts to establish peace and stability in the South Caucasus region, restore the liberated territories and the Great Return. The partnership between the US and Azerbaijan is further strengthened by common goals and interests. We believe that it will continue successfully,” he said.-03B06-
