Azerbaijan-Armenia: U.S. Says Remains 'Deeply Engaged' Following Top Negotiator's Trip To Region
The United States on Monday reiterated its intent to remain 'deeply engaged' in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan,' TURAN's U.S. correspondent reports.
Wahington's comments came in light of Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations Louis Bono's recent visit to the region, where he met with senior Armenian officials last week to discuss ongoing efforts to finalize a peace agreement.
"I’m not going to put a timeline on it... Of course, this is something that both the Secretary [of State] and Coordinator Bono continue to be deeply engaged on, but I don’t have any specific updates for you or a timeline to offer," State Department's Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel told a daily briefing when responding to TURAN's questions.
Bono's trip also came ahead of Turkish-Armenia diplomatic engagement as special representatives from both countries will hold a new round of talks today, resuming efforts to end years of animosity after a two-year pause in negotiations.
"I don’t have anything to preview. Again, just saying that this is something that the Secretary has been focused on, and we’ll continue to be deeply engaged on it," Patel said when asked by TURAN about Washington's expectations from today's meeting.
