Azerbaijan must be among the leaders in the field of “green” transition, Ilham Aliyev said
The potential of Azerbaijan's renewable energy resources exceeds the country's needs, which makes it possible to export the generated "green energy". At the same time, the gas saved in energy generation will also be exported, primarily to Europe, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated in an interview with Euronews TV channel.
According to him, Azerbaijan can produce "up to ten gigawatts of electricity from alternative energy sources in the medium term and up to five gigawatts by 2030." "This is our goal. There is potential here, and you can see what kind of sun, ambition and wind we have. There is a good investment climate here. This clearly demonstrates how a country that earned money from fossil fuels is now channeling this wealth into renewable energy. As the host country of COP29, we are also obliged to be among the leaders in the field of “green” transition," Aliyev said. At the same time, he noted the need for development "the national energy network". "We need to strengthen it so that it can absorb as much as we can offer to investors. Another issue is related to power lines, which requires us to actively collaborate with our neighbors. After all, Azerbaijan itself will not need as many renewable energy resources as we plan to produce. Therefore, our goal is to ensure exports, as well as a very complex approach to maximizing the use of renewable energy resources for electricity production and saving natural gas, sending it to those who need it now, first of all, to Europe," Aliyev said.
