Azerbaijan wants to arrest a diplomat via Interpol

The National Bureau of Interpol in Azerbaijan decided to detain and prosecute the diplomat, former head of the country's representation in the Council of Europe, and until recently, the representative of the Islamic Conference in the EU Arif Mamedov.

"According to Interpol to conduct Appropriate operational and investigative activities are going on the Interpol line," reads the statement. Does this mean that Mamedov is wanted, it is not clear.

As for the reasons, the country's Prosecutor General's report of 12 August stated check has revealed that during Arif Mamedov's permanent representation at the Council of Europe (2007-2012) there has been a misuse of public funds, embezzlement of state property on a large scale, forgery and other offenses.

In this regard, the Prosecutor General's Office filed a lawsuit under the Articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement or misappropriation of another's property on a large scale), 308.2 (abuse of power), 313 (forgery), and 326.1 (misappropriation of official documents) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Checking the activity of the diplomat 10 years ago began after he criticized the government officials responsible for the deaths of 16 people in a fire in a residential building in Baku in May this year on  his page on Facebook. This irritated the authorities and Mammadov was announced almost an enemy of the people and the government, who is preparing a coup. After that began the persecution of a diplomat and the authorities suddenly decided to check out his old job.

Check of the prosecutor's office revealed that Mammadov has got private car in Strasbourg, presenting it as an acquisition of the permanent representative offices. The Prosecutor's Office alleges that Mamedov wrote off a significant amount of funds on the basis of forged documents in 2007 and 2012. during the visits  members of the Milli Majlis to Strasbourg.

In 2007 he appropriated 3,700 euros as a repeated salary. In addition, payments for lectricity in his apartment in the period 2007-2012 he paid it is not paid at the expense of the State (6500 euros.)

In addition, he sold two cars worth 25300 euros, belonging to Azerbaijan's diplomatic mission, without the consent of the State Property Committee for 7100 euro.

During his work in Strasbourg Mamedov appropriated 410,830 euros without proper documentation, according to prosecutors.

After the scandal of Arif Mammadov in May, he  resigned from the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan and expressed reluctance to return to Azerbaijan. He also made a number of political statements condemning the policy of the authorities in Baku. -16 / 02D-
