The National Bureau of Interpol in Azerbaijan decided to detain and prosecute the diplomat, former head of the country's representation in the Council of Europe, and until recently, the representative of the Islamic Conference in the EU Arif Mamedov.

Checking the activity of the diplomat 10 years ago began after he criticized the government officials responsible for the deaths of 16 people in a fire in a residential building in Baku in May this year on his page on Facebook. The Prosecutor's Office alleges that Mamedov wrote off a significant amount of funds on the basis of forged documents in 2007 and 2012. during the visits members of the Milli Majlis to Strasbourg.
